Embracing Emotions Beyond the Myths of Practicality

Beyond the Myths of Practicality in Innovation and Transformation

In the ever-evolving landscape of modern life, there's an ongoing debate between the value of practicality and the importance of emotions. Traditionally, practicality has been revered as the cornerstone of success, a rational approach that drives efficiency and tangible outcomes.

Yet, this perspective is increasingly seen as a relic of the past. Emotions, often dismissed as mere distractions in a world obsessed with efficiency, actually form the bedrock of creativity and innovation. And that leads to Change!

The Retro Approach of Practicality

The emphasis on practicality can be traced back to industrial and post-industrial eras when precision and efficiency were paramount. The belief was that to achieve success, one needed to prioritize logic, structure, and measurable results. This practical mindset dictated that emotions were secondary, if not irrelevant, in decision-making processes. However, this view is rapidly becoming outdated.

To be practical often means adhering to a set of conditioning laid out by conformism and the pressures of being perceived as relevant. This results in a herd mentality, where individuals are lost in a crowd of similar people, following generalized norms and expectations.

Practicality, in this sense, becomes a term synonymous with conformity—doing what is expected because it aligns with societal norms rather than personal passion or innovation.
In the realm of advanced Emotional Intelligence (EQ), it's clear that emotions are not just accessories to practical success but rather crucial drivers of it. Practicality without emotional insight can lead to sterile, uninspired solutions. While practicality ensures the smooth running of systems and processes, it is emotions that breathe life into ideas and drive transformative change.

Emotions as Catalysts for Innovation

Consider the profound impact emotions have had on human progress. The dream of flying, rooted in the emotional desire for freedom and exploration, led to the invention of airplanes.
The fairy tales about the moon, born from humanity's fascination and wonder, inspired the space missions that landed us on the lunar surface. These examples underscore a fundamental truth: emotions often fuel the ambitions that lead to groundbreaking innovations.

Emotional insight is also vital in understanding and connecting with human experiences. This connection is not merely a byproduct of creativity but a driving force behind it.
For instance, the Navarasa—a 2,000-year-old Indian concept—highlights nine core emotions that are central to dramatic arts and storytelling. This ancient knowledge illustrates how deeply emotions are interwoven with cultural and artistic expressions.

Moreover, the influence of emotions extends into practical realms. In the 1970s, a top barrister in the UK dedicated a year to studying dramatic and human emotions to enhance his effectiveness in court. This immersion in emotional understanding not only improved his legal arguments but also showcased how emotional depth can enhance practical skills.

The Synergy of Emotions and Practicality

Rather than segregating emotions from practicality, a more nuanced approach is to recognize their interdependence. Emotional insight can guide practical decisions by infusing them with purpose, meaning, and human relevance. For example, while hiring specialists for tasks like financial management, technology, and marketing is pragmatic, the strategic vision and innovative ideas that drive these decisions often stem from a place of emotional inspiration.

Emotions are not a detriment to practicality but a complementary force. They inspire creative visions and provide the emotional fuel necessary for pursuing those visions. This emotional drive is essential for pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and embracing change.

The Future of Innovation

In the contemporary world, where advanced EQ is increasingly valued, the dichotomy between practicality and emotions becomes less relevant. Successful innovators and creators understand that emotional depth is not a hindrance but a powerful tool.
Embracing emotions as a core aspect of innovation means reimagining traditional approaches and integrating emotional insights into practical frameworks.

Ultimately, while practicality ensures the smooth execution of ideas, it is emotions that spark the ideas themselves. By valuing and harnessing both, we can foster a more holistic approach to innovation and transformation.

So, let us move beyond the outdated notion that practicality must overshadow emotions. Instead, let us recognize that emotions, far from being a mere afterthought, are the driving force behind the most impactful and transformative ideas. In a world where practicality often equates to conformity and herd mentality, it is the recognition and application of emotions that distinguish individuals and drive true innovation.

And when was producing new life ever just a practical process? The greatest creation—human life—emerges from the peak of our parents’ emotions, not their logical planning. Scientists have observed that when sperm and ovum unite through deep emotional engagement, it creates a magnificent explosion of light—photons inside the body. That’s not practicality; that’s pure, raw emotion at work.

They need their Managers to be Practical !!

So let’s stop equating practicality with mundane tasks like cleaning a toilet while dismissing the profound impact of emotional engagement. Practicality often means conforming to a set of conditions designed to blend in with others. It doesn’t spark innovation, nor do these self-proclaimed practical people pay your bills. It’s the emotionally engaged individuals who drive creativity and change.

They are the ones who inspire the need for standard operating procedures (SOPs) that practical people create to make the dream of funders come true.

So remain the way you are, and strengthen your empire! Success comes for both. One as a Creator and one as a Follower!
